Frost hits the coffee crop

Demand stays put. Supply shifts left.
The frost changes what sellers can offer, not what buyers want. At every price, growers now have fewer beans to sell, so the whole supply curve moves left. Demand has not changed. Buyers respond to the higher price by moving along their existing demand curve.
Price rises and quantity falls.
Common mistake. Students often shift demand left because 'there is less coffee.' Less coffee is a supply story. The higher price then reduces quantity demanded along the demand curve, but demand itself does not move.
