Disinflation

A fall in the inflation rate, prices still rising but more slowly. It is not deflation. Bringing inflation down usually costs a spell of unemployment above the natural rate, unless the central bank is credible enough to move expectations first.

Also called: Volcker disinflation, sacrifice ratio
